Our musicians will be kept busy next week by performing at a major competition and two public recitals.
They will begin the week by giving a brass recital on Monday 17th November and a woodwind recital on Tuesday 18th November.
Then on Sunday 23rd November our Senior Concert Band and our new Big Band will compete at the Midlands heat of the National Concert Band Festival at Northampton School for Boys.
Director of Music Clive Wears said: “It will be the first time our new Big Band has taken part in a major competition.
“We are in the process of putting the final touches to our performances and the rehearsals have been going well.
“All the students are very excited about competing.”
Both bands will perform a 20 minute programme of music at the competition.
The Senior Concert Band will perform Marchissimo, Celtic Ritual which will feature Year 13 student Joshua Cresswell on the flute, Ballad for Benny and Palladio.
The Big Band will perform a number of pieces, including Valerie and So What.
The winners of the Midlands heat of the competition will go on to perform at the grand final at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester in April 2015.
Our woodwind recital on Tuesday will include a performance by our Junior Concert Band and it will be the first time that some of its new members have performed in public.
Our students will also give a vocal recital on Monday 24th November.
All the recitals will take place in the Academy’s main theatre from 3.30pm to 4.30pm.
Everyone is welcome to attend the recitals, including parents, and admission is free.
