A tutor group has handed over £385 in sponsorship money to Save the Children.
Members of 8D raised the money by taking part in a sponsored walk or run in fancy dress after researching the issue of poverty for an assembly.
They presented the money to Save the Children Volunteer Speaker Josephine Burgess when she visited our Academy this term to talk about the charity’s work at another assembly.
8D Form Tutor Abbie Parsons said: “Josephine was really impressed that such a small group of students had managed to raise so much money for the charity.
“During her visit she told us about some of the projects that the students’ money might go towards.”
Students Elan Southwick, who ran the most laps, and Joshua Symonds and Zack Gane, who raised the highest amount of sponsorship money, received certificates from Josephine on behalf of the tutor group.
The sponsored walk or run consisted of a minimum of 15 laps of the Academy’s astroturf pitch, which is about three miles in distance.
The fundraiser took place after school during Session 4.
In total the group raised £770. It has donated the other half of the sponsorship money to Unicef.
