A young poet from our Academy met a famous author after being named the runner-up in the Brooke Weston Trust creative writing competition.

Students from secondary and primary schools across the Trust were challenged to produce a piece of writing based on the theme If I Ruled the World.

CBA Year 7 student Saskia Culbert’s thoughtful poem secured her the runner-up spot and author Julian Sedgwick presented her with a signed copy of his book, The Black Dragon, as a prize.

CBA Librarian Amy McKay said: “We chose Saskia as our in-house winner and we were thrilled when she was named the runner-up overall.

“Her poem was very considered and thoughtful.

“She was very proud of herself for doing so well, as she rightly should be.”

The presentation was made at the Thomas Clarkson Academy in Wisbech.

If I Ruled the World - by Saskia Culbert

If I ruled the world things would go my way,

If I ruled the world there would be less school days.

If I ruled the world animals could talk to birds,

If I ruled the world things would be absurd.

If I ruled the world everyone would be millionaires,

If I ruled the world I’d be in expensive planes flying through the air.

If I ruled the world chocolate would be a healthy food,

If I ruled the world no teachers could get in a mood.

If I ruled the world everything would be great,

If I ruled the world there would be no hate.

If I ruled the world, if I ruled the world,

If I ruled the world…things would be great.

If I ruled the world there would be no hate.
