Two of our musicians have proved themselves to be among the very best young performers in Europe.
Year 13’s Sam Addy and Year 9 student Louie Anderson performed with Youth Brass 2000 at the European Youth Brass Band Championships in Freiburg, Germany, on Sunday.
The two cornet players helped the Corby band to come second in the Premier section of the competition.
Louie, 14, said: “It’s a very prestigious competition and we performed really well.
“We played to win but the band which won was outstanding and a lot of its players were older so we were very happy to be named the runners-up.
“It was a fantastic result for us.”
During the Corby band’s 25-minute set it performed Deo Gloria, Idyll on an Irish Hymn, Arcana, Monteverdi's Three Miniatures and Valero.
It scored 95 points – just three less than the winners, the Young Brass Band Willebroek from Belgium.
Youth Brass 2000 will perform at Music For Youth’s National Festival in Birmingham this summer.
