A group of our students will play a pivotal role in an exciting new initiative designed to increase the number of young people playing sport.
Twelve of our Year 9 students were officially named as Brooke Weston Trust Young Leaders at the launch of the scheme at Kettering Science Academy on Friday.
In total there are 100 Young Leaders from secondary schools across the Trust who have been selected to promote sport to their peers because they have outstanding qualities and have demonstrated a commitment to sport.
CBA Director of Active Amy Harris said: “During the launch event our students completed a variety of activities and learned how to coach and deliver activities to younger students.
“They were able to mix with other students from across the Trust and they worked really well together.
“All our students represented our Academy well and they will be good role models for younger students.
“Some of the Young Leaders will help with the BWT Sports Festival at Kettering Science Academy tomorrow which will be a fantastic opportunity for them.”
The Young Leaders will be encouraged to take an active role within their schools and will be responsible for sports festivals, assemblies, coaching, inspiring and setting a good example for others.
At the launch event the Young Leaders were given coaching advice on tag rugby, volleyball, football and Project Ability. They also looked at how they could use their role to assist students that are less able to enjoy sports due to a physical disability.
One of our Young Leaders, Angela Bozic, said: “I was really pleased to be chosen to be a Young Leader and the launch event was a lot of fun. I especially enjoyed finding out more about coaching volleyball.”
