Enterprise Sale will be held this week

Our young entrepreneurs hope to raise hundreds of pounds by selling a range of handmade goods at our Christmas Enterprise Sale and Café.

Our young entrepreneurs hope to raise hundreds of pounds by selling a range of handmade goods at our Christmas Enterprise Sale and Café.

The majority of the students involved with the sale are from Unit Provision but a number of mainstream Sixth Formers will also run stalls.

One of the groups that hope to raise money from the sale is our Unit Football Team.

Football Coach Richard White said: “We will sell a range of knitted toys created by Jean Leighton who supports us every year.

“All the money we raise will go towards paying for our teams’ new football kits.

“All the different groups within Unit will be taking part to raise money for extra-curricular activities.

“We hope lots of people will come along to support us.”

Our Sixth Form Geography students will also be holding a bake sale to raise money for two good causes.

The money will be used to ship old Geography textbooks to Africa via Books2Africa and any remaining money will be donated to Save the Cassowary project that is trying to save the endangered bird from extinction.

Director of Geography Maxine Hopewell said: “We have about 10 boxes of former GCSE and Key Stage 3 text books which we cannot use any more because of changes to the curriculum.

“We didn’t want to throw them away and decided to send them to schools in Africa through the Books2Africa project.

“It will cost us about £5 to send each box so we are hoping to raise lots of money from our bake sale.”

The Geography students will bake items for the sale after school on Thursday 10th December.

Year 13 Geography student George Tebbutt added: “I’m pleased to help with the Books2Africa project because as a geographer I understand the need to recycle and prevent waste going to landfill.”

The sale will take place from 11.30am to 1pm on Friday 11th December in the Academy’s Central Mall outside Unit and AMID.
