The most successful player in the history of the British Basketball League has become a mentor to our students.

Andrew Bridge won 19 championships during his career and was also part of the England Basketball Team that won Bronze at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia, in 2006.

He is working with CBA as part of his role as a Sky Sports Living for Sport Athlete Mentor and he visited us for the first time this term.

CBA Director of PE Amy Harris said: “Andrew was lovely. He watched our Year 7 basketballers compete in the Sports Hall and he’s planning to visit us again soon.

“When he returns he hopes to do an assembly for our Key Stage 3 and 4 students about health and fitness and he will work with our students from Unit too.”

Andrew began playing basketball at 12 and at 16 began to focus all his attention on basketball after discovering he had true talent.

He won 17 championships with the Newcastle Eagles and two further championships with the Sheffield Sharks.

Andrew retired from basketball in 2013.
