One of our linguists has made it through to the national final of the Foreign Language Spelling Bee.

Year 7 Spanish student Tayla Kelly qualified for the national final after she came in the top four of the regional final which was held at our Academy last week.

Tayla faced tough competition in the Routes Into Languages contest from students from schools from five counties, including representatives from our sister school Brooke Weston Academy who will join her in the final.

Our Academy also entered two students into the French section of the competition and although they did not make it through to the national final they performed very well.

CBA Director of Modern Languages Karen Turney said: “The standard of the competition was extremely high with students spelling an incredible amount of words correctly in one minute.

“Tayla did very well and we are so proud of her for getting through to the national final of the Spanish section.

“There was also very tough competition in the French section.

“It was a very close contest and although our French students did not make it through to the national final they did fantastically well and they have learned so much from this experience.

“It was a really great event and it went very well.

“We would like to thank our Chair of Governors Michelle Duffy for presenting the prizes to the winners. She was astounded at the ability of the students.

“We are also grateful to the other members of staff from our Trust who helped us to put on the event.”

The national final will be held on July 1st in Cambridge.
