Rugby fans are being encouraged to become ambassadors for the sport.

Corby Business Academy is encouraging its students to join the RFU’s Young Ambassadors scheme which encourages young people aged 14 to 25 to take on leadership roles and promote the sport in their own time.

Ambassadors can volunteer to take part in rugby activities inside and outside of school and are rewarded with certificates and prizes once they have completed a certain amount of hours.

CBA Rugby Coach Natasha Barstow said: “We wanted to get involved with this scheme because we have so many students who are interested in rugby and play the game inside and outside of school.

“We are also keen to develop our leadership opportunities through sports leadership roles and this is a great programme.

“This is a really exciting time for us in terms of rugby at CBA.

“We will go into Year 4 of the All Schools Rugby programme next year and whilst our focus will still be on students playing the game we want to encourage them to become referees, coaches and ambassadors for the game too.

“We are also strengthening our links with Stewarts & Lloyds RFC and in September we will start competing in the Natwest Schools Cup which is a major competition.

“In addition we will have new staff members joining us who are rugby specialists.”

Anyone who wants to sign up to the Young Ambassadors scheme should attend a meeting after school on Wednesday 8th June in PNS with rugby development officer Andrew Milner.
