Language students translate stories

Our Modern Languages team joined forces with our librarians to challenge our students to translate a picture book into either French or Spanish.

The students did a presentation on their work which was filmed and it is hoped the students’ work could be used by primary school pupils who are learning languages.

CBA Director of Modern Languages Karen Turney said: “It was a very worthwhile project because it has encouraged the students to think about the challenges of translating.

“Translating is an essential skill for students studying languages at GCSE level.

“Our Librarian Amy shared the students’ work with a professional translator who chose the best ones.”

The winners were:

  • Katy Wilson, Zofia Pilus and Niamh McClintock for Dear Zoo
  • Luke Jackson, Charlie Downey, Michal Wasilewsk and Archie Lynch for Shhh! We Have A Plan
  • Sullivan Rymarz, Matthew Rawlings, Camille Wooton and Heidija Lagzdina for Sam & Dave Dig A Hole
