Students help local community through NCS

Over summer a group of students from Corby Business Academy took part in National Citizen Service.

The students were put into teams with a mixture of students from different schools across Northamptonshire to complete a variety of projects and encourage them to step out of their comfort zone and meet new people.

Each student spent three weeks developing themselves personally and professionally. During the final fourth week they spent 30 hours engaging in social action. Projects the students helped to create, manage and carry out included; cleaning up Abington Park, renovating Broaden Horizons Garden, raising money and awareness for the Cynthia Spencer Hospice, the Hope Centre, the Alzheimer’s Society care homes across Northants and the Golden Steps Nursery.

A spokes person from the NCS team said ‘These projects have really helped to set the students up for new situations in the future such as university and apprenticeships and the impact your year 11’s had on their local community was huge.’

Due to the success of the programme, the school will be promoting the NCS to new Year 11 students later this.
