Update on GCSE, AS and A level exams 2021

Dear Year 11 & 13 Students and Parents or Carers,

You may well be aware that today Gavin Williamson, the Education Secretary, confirmed in the House of Commons that GCSE, AS and A-level examinations will not go ahead this year. He said he wished “to use a form of teacher assessment grades, with training and support provided to ensure these are awarded fairly and consistently across the country”.

Mr Williamson advised that Ofqual will launch a “detailed” consultation on the plans next week, which will run for two weeks.

As soon as we have further information regarding what this means, we will of course advise and work with you. As per my previous messages, it is extremely important that you continue to fully engage with your learning and lessons each day..

For our students studying for vocational qualifications, you should still attend public examinations as planned. Again, it is vital you approach your subjects with energy and enthusiasm. All students that this concerns will receive an additional correspondence.

To all of our students, we would like to stress we continue to be here for you, to help you and support you. Please do speak to us if you are feeling anxious or in need of additional support.

I will be in touch with you all soon with updates as soon as they are available.

Take care and stay safe.

Kind regards

Simon Underwood
Associate Principal
