GCSE success stories as students celebrate grade 9 achievements

Congratulations to all our Year 11 students who are celebrating their GCSE exam results today. Here is what some of our top performing students are doing next:

Blazej Puchala achieved grade 9s in all eleven of his GCSE subjects which included Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, English Language, English Literature, French, Geography, History, Mathematics, Physics and Polish. He will now stay on to study A-Levels in Chemistry, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics at Corby Business Academy. He said: “I am really happy with my results and secured the outcomes I was hoping for. I started studying for my GCSEs in Year 9 and found learning small bits of information useful. Notes, flashcards and revision website suggested by teachers. Even just small 10 minutes bitesize early on really helps. It doesn’t feel much but helps build your knowledge. I would advise students starting their GCSEs next year to start little bits of revision early and looking over work early on. Make sure you know the content of course and be confident with what you need to know. Address anything you don’t know so you can fill in the plug holes as it all adds up.

“I would like to thank all my teachers, everyone in the school and my family who supported me. I really enjoyed studying each of my GCSEs as I found all of them interesting.

“I have decided to stay on to study Sixth Form at the Academy because the teachers have supported me so much and know how I learn. They have also provided me with extra work to help me support my progress and help me advance. I am excited for the independence of Sixth Form and the style of learning it brings.

“I am unsure what I want to pursue a career in at present but I imagine it will be something based on the sciences or engineering (potentially aerospace) due to the subjects I have a passion for.

“The people at the Academy as well as the lessons have been a highlight during my time at the Academy so far. Everything comes together as a community at Corby Business Academy; it has a wonderful atmosphere and I feel a real sense of belonging here.”

Aaron Rawlins also secured grade 9s in all of his GCSE subjects which included Biology, Chemistry, computer Science, English Language, English Literature, French, History, Mathematics and Physics. He will now go on to study A-Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Further Mathematics. He said “I am pleased with my results and achieved the grades I was hoping for. I am looking forward to continuing to study subjects I enjoy at A-Level and hope to pursue a career as a doctor as I like helping people.

“My favourite subject has been the Sciences as I find them very interesting whilst I have also enjoyed Maths as I like problem solving. Flashcards helped me to prepare for my assessments and I would advise students starting their GCSEs in September to prepare early to reduce stress.

“I would like to thank all my teacher. Through the last few years, in particular during the pandemic, everyone in the Academy has really supported one another. I have enjoyed the people, friends and teaching during at my time at the Academy and I have found the Academy to be a very supportive environment.”

Alan Zajac gained seven grade 9s in Biology, Chemistry, English Language, Geography, History, Mathematics and Polish, two grade 8s in French and Physics and a grade 7 in English Literature. He will now go on to study A-Levels in Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics. He said: “I am really happy with my results and achieved better outcomes than I expected.

“My favourite subjects have been Mathematics, English and Geography as I found they all had engaging topics and the teachers made the lessons fun. I am now hoping to pursue a career in engineering as it is always something that has interested me.

“I used the online platform Seneca, practice exam questions and repetitive note taking to help me revise for my assessments and would advise students taking their exams next year to prepare early to help reduce stress levels.

“I would like to thank my teachers are they are the people who made my results possible. I have found Corby Business Academy to be a friendly environment.”

Angela Bujac achieved seven grade 9s in Biology, Business, English Language, English Literature, French, Geography and Maths and two grade 8s in Chemistry and Physics. She will now continue into Sixth Form at Corby Business Academy. She said: “I am pleased with my results but they still haven’t fully sunk in yet. I am now hoping to study three of the following subjects: Business, Biology, Geography or Mathematics but I haven’t quite narrowed it down yet. I have decided to stay at the Academy to continue my studies as I am familiar with the teachers and the working environment and think this is best for me.

“I am looking forward to meeting new people in Sixth Form and finding out more about myself. I am still unsure of the career path I would like to pursue but am very interested in jobs that have not been created yet in regards to climate change etc as well as HR related jobs.

“Geography was my favourite subject as I enjoyed all the topics and the variety of the subject as well as the real-life examples and the fact the subject is forever changing as the world does.

“To help me revise for Business and Science I used Seneca – an online platform that asked mini questions. I personally found it better than making my own as the questions are random and I haven’t planned my own. I would advise students starting their GCSEs next year not to stress if they are unsure of their future plans. Also, don’t leave things till last minute, this allows yourself to be in a better position and feel less overwhelmed. Finally, support yourself.

“I would like to thank Mrs Gavin for being encouraging and using her free time to check my work, Mr Haseldine because you tell he puts a lot of effort into his lessons, made remote lessons really engaging and is always on hand to help, Mrs Hawkins for being so helpful in business and mailing sure we knew key things that would allow us to get the high marks. There are lots of other teachers as well but there are too many to mention! I want to thank everyone who encouraged and believed in me. I have enjoyed my time at Corby Business Academy and have found everyone so supportive in preparation for the exams.”

David Zelinsky is one student that stood out alongside Bethany Aveyard and Marvin Camara for making high levels of progress across all subjects studied. Daniel will now continue to study A-Levels in Geography, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics at Corby Business Academy. He said: “My results were as I expected which was good. I have decided to stay on for Sixth Form at the Academy as the people I know here are also staying on and I think the Academy will provide the best education for me. My favourite subject was Mathematics due to the simplicity of the subject and I am continuing to study Maths as I enjoyed it. I am also taking Physics as it is a natural extension and have really enjoyed Geography so have decided to take this as well. I am looking forward to meeting new people in Sixth Form.

“The people at the Academy have been so friendly at Corby Business Academy.

“I found that videos helped me to prepare for my assessments and would advise students starting their GCSEs next year to have fun with it.”
