Oundle Festival of Music & Drama

Corby Business Academy swept the board at the Oundle Festival of Music and Drama

On Friday 22nd March 2024, five ensembles from Corby Business Academy had the honour of performing at the prestigious Oundle Festival of Music and Drama held at the Great Hall, Oundle. Corby Business Academy’s Concert Band, Brass Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble, CBA Harmonies and CBA Singers performed a 10-minute programme each to an adjudicator (Naida Hinson) from The Royal Academy of Music, London, as well as fellow musicians from other schools. This resulted in being awarded four 1st places and therefore bringing back a coach full of silverware!

The Concert Band’s programme included ‘The Muppet Show Theme’ composed by J Henson, an upbeat version of ‘Lion King,’ and a cornet solo entitled ‘Buster Strikes Back’ by Year 12 student Amelia Vickery.

Appearing at Oundle School for only the second time in their history, CBA Singers performed Welcome to the 60s, Seasons of Love, Never Enough, and finally an Adele Mashup.

The Director of Vocal Studies, Matt Smith, said: “This group of students have once again worked incredibly hard and shown fantastic commitment to this ensemble and their vocal studies. They love singing and enjoy every moment of their rehearsals in the Music Department.”

The Director of Music, Clive Wears, said: ‘It was great to be back performing at the prestigious Oundle Festival of Music and Drama. The Concert Band, Brass Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble, CBA Singers, and CBA Harmonies were up against some tough opposition.

All our ensembles delivered some extremely imaginative sets which were enhanced by our fine, fine soloists. Our students performed quite brilliantly and with such confidence. A special tribute must go to Amelia Vickery from Year 12, whose cornet solo was once again sublime.

To conclude our busy spring programme, the Big Band will be performing at a Jazz Café at Northampton School for Girls on Wednesday 27th March. More information to follow.
