Garry Finan, our Head Chef here at Corby Business Academy, is in the finals after winning his heat on Tuesday 21st May 2024 for LACA School Chef of the Year (SCOTY).

Garry received some fantastic feedback, with comments like "You were a joy to watch work" and was told that he was calm and extremely organised, while displaying great chef skills.

Another positive comment was made from Louise Wagstaffe, Premier Food's development chef and SCOTY head judge. He commented: "Watching Garry cook today was a pleasure. His time planning, organisation, and execution were exemplary. The citrus posset, made with McDougalls Lime Jelly, was a real hit with the judges and complemented beautifully with the Earl Grey biscuit.”  

Garry took part in the cook-off held at MKN’s kitchen in Cannock. The school chefs had just 1 hour 30 minutes in which to create four portions of their two-course menu.

For his main course, he produced soy and honey marinated chicken with scallion pancake, Asian stir fry and noodles. For dessert, he created a citrus posset with raspberry compote and an Earl Grey biscuit.

As an Academy we are extremely proud of Garry and wish him all the best in the next stage of the competition. The LACA Live finals for the title are on the 3rd - 4th July 2024.
