Brass band victory for three CBA musicians

Three CBA students who are part of Youth Brass 2000 helped the band to victory in the National Youth Brass Band competition over half term.

Three CBA students who are part of Youth Brass 2000 helped the band to victory in the National Youth Brass Band competition over half term.

The band – which includes Sixth Form students Myles Peters, Andile Chiwuta and David Graham – were named champions at the event in Blackpool.

Youth Brass 2000 also won several other categories, including Best Basses, which is Myles, Andile and David’s section.

At the competition the band played a programme paying musical homage to the great American big band leader Glen Miller.

Youth Brass 2000 will now receive an invitation to perform at the Brass in Concert Championship at The Sage Gateshead in November.

CBA’s Director of Music, Clive Wears, said: “It’s a credit to the three boys, not only being able to say they are the best band in the Youth UK but also the best tuba section is something to be extremely proud of.  This does not happen often!”

The tuba section will be joined by Joseph Samuels-Hammond and Benjamin Campbell to perform for Corby Business Academy Concert Band and Senior Brass Ensemble at the forthcoming National Festival of Music for Youth on Sunday 17th March at Northampton School for Boys.
