About 50 Year 7 and 8 students took part in a new initiative launched by the Academy's Sports Council.
The council, which is made up of students, has decided it wants to run different sports activities for students at the end of each term.
It held its first event, a dodgeball tournament, this week and as a result of its success there will be a dodgeball tournament for Year 9 students next term.
Active teacher Natasha Dunstone said: "It was really good. We had five teams of players and everyone participated really well.
"Some of them hadn't played dodgeball before so it was good to introduce them to the sport."
Mr Aston's Year 7 tutor group won the tournament which was run by Sports Council members Chloe MacDonald, Eve Pavitt, Vanessa Mumba, Erica Turner, Heather Phillips, Beth Fennell, Thomas Keeney and Charlotte Chenery.
The Sports Council is now planning which activity it will put on next term.
