Professional artist works with students

A contemporary artist has inspired our art students to experiment outside their comfort zones.
Edward Waite took a day off from his studio in Lincoln to talk to our Year 11, 12 and 13 students about his work.
Director of Art, Zoe Moore, said: “Edward did practical work with our Year 12 students and showed them how he builds up a landscape.
“He doesn’t paint traditionally – most people will do a sketch first and then fill it in whereas he does it the other way around. He layers his colours and puts the details on top.
“If I had asked the sixth formers to try to do that they would have felt uncomfortable about it because they like to be precise but because Edward is a contemporary artist they were more willing to take a risk.
“He also spoke to them about how they could forge a career and how to go about selling their work.”
In addition Mr Waite spoke to our Year 13 students about their portfolios and sketch books and he showed his work to our Year 11 students and spoke to them about how they could develop their work.
He said: “I really enjoyed talking to the students and helping them to move forward with their future, art projects and painting skills.
“They are all great ambassadors for the Academy.
“I hope they all got something out of it and are able to use some of the techniques I showed them in future work.”
