Great Britain’s most successful Olympian took time out of his busy schedule to spend time with our students.
Track cyclist Sir Chris Hoy won six Olympic gold medals and a silver medal between 2004 and 2012.
After seeing our Unit students showing off the lottery-funded disabled facilities at Adrenaline Alley in Corby on BBC1’s National Lottery Live programme last month, he arranged to meet them at the centre yesterday.
Teacher Nikki Clark said: “I understand that Sir Chris saw our students and the people from Adrenaline Alley on the National Lottery Live programme and wanted to meet our children.
“He talked with some of our students about how he started off on BMX bikes and progressed from there.
“He signed autographs and had his picture taken with them and had a look around the centre.”
During the visit our students also got the chance to use Adrenaline Alley’s scooters, trikes, skateboards and roller blades.
Student Harry Hinxman had quite a long chat with Sir Chris.
Harry said: “He told me he liked Adrenaline Alley and I asked to see his medals.
“I had a great time going on the ramps – I did one of the bigger ones for the first time which was great.”
Student Elle Smith added: “I had a chat with Sir Chris and I got his autograph. I enjoyed riding a bike – we had lots of fun.”
After the visit Sir Chris tweeted: “Great to meet all @AdrenalineAlley today, massive facility in Corby benefiting from @LottoGoodCauses support.”
