Corby Business Academy’s new students have been invited to explore the school during a fun-packed space-themed Summer School.
A group of staff and Sixth Form students will host the Summer School during the summer holidays to give next year’s new Year 7 students the chance to make new friends and find their way around our school building before they arrive here in September.
The sessions will have a space theme and will include a trip to the National Space Centre in Leicester.
English Teacher Rebecca Horridge is helping to co-ordinate the summer school along with Textiles Teacher Abbie Parsons.
Miss Horridge said: “We’ve chosen a space theme because we’re going to be exploring new worlds and we realize our new Year 7 students will feel like they are exploring a brand new world when they first arrive here.
“There will be lots of cross-curricular activities and it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Miss Parsons added: “It will also introduce them to the building and some of the staff and give them the chance to get to know one another and make friends.
“Hopefully the experience will prepare them for September and put their minds at ease if they are nervous about starting secondary school.”
Bradley Thompson will be one of the sixth formers who will help to run the sessions.
He said: “We hope it will give the new students a chance to explore the Academy so they can start to find their way around before September.
“We’re all looking forward to welcoming the new students.”
The Summer School will take place daily from Monday 28th July to Thursday 31st July and from Monday 4th August to Thursday 7th August.
It will run from 10am to 2pm every day apart from the day of the visit to the National Space Centre in Leicester.
Letters will be sent to all new Year 7 students in the next few days.
Places are limited so prospective students who want to take part should return the reply slips on the letters by Monday 9th June.
Any Year 6 students who want further information about the Summer School can email Miss Parsons at aparsons@corbybusinessacademy.org or Miss Horridge at rhorridge@corbybusinessacademy.org
