BTEC students display their business skills by organising show

Year 10 Music BTEC students tested their business skills by organising a concert to showcase our Academy’s musical talent.

Year 10 Music BTEC students tested their business skills by organising a concert to showcase our Academy’s musical talent.

The BTEC students put on the concert last Wednesday to give all our young musicians and singers the chance to perform in front of staff and students in the Academy’s main theatre.

Courtney Hope was one of the Year 10 BTEC students who helped to organise the event.

She said: “We wanted to organise something that people would enjoy.

“Initially we thought about hosting a talent show but there was already another one happening here for charity so we decided to do a musical show instead which would not be competitive.

“We just wanted all the performers to come along and have fun.”

Fellow organiser Courtney Smith added: “It was a great experience to organise the show. We worked with the site staff and we had meetings with Mr Henrys about our preparations for the event.

“We were quite surprised by the large number of performers who wanted to take part in the show.

“It was a great chance to show off what our Academy has to offer.”

Music Teacher Lucy Wass praised the students for all their hard work.

She said: “This is the first time we have had a Year 10 BTEC Music class and all the students have worked very hard.

“The show was open to everyone – students didn’t have to be part of one of our musical groups in order to take part.

“In the run-up to the show the BTEC students looked at different venues and different types of shows and held meetings with Mr Henrys and Mrs Duggan.

“The students were very professional and I think the experience has given them an insight into the business side of the music industry and organising events. They have all learned valuable skills.”

The event was open to students of all ages.
