May 2014 - BHE - Year 10 Geography Controlled Assessment Data Collection Field Trip
![]() Dear Parent/Carer
RE: Year 10 Geography Controlled Assessment data collection field trip – Monday 9th June 2014
As part of the Geography GCSE course, it is a requirement that a geographical investigation is undertaken. The finished controlled assessment is equal to 25% of the final GCSE grade. The assessment consists of a day’s field trip followed by up to 16 hours of write up, under controlled conditions within the Academy.
For the investigation students will be visiting a centre, which is run by the FSC (Field Studies Council), based in Stratford, East London. The FSC are providing our students with a rigid schedule of study and activities.
Outline of the day:
Additional requirements:
Students will be required to wear clothes suitable for walking and being outdoors, ideally trainers and active wear, as students will be walking around in a mix of urban areas and city parks. Students should also bring a waterproof jacket, water and sunscreen. Students can bring their own cameras / mobile phones at their own risk. Students who require free school meals will have this provided for them, otherwise a packed lunch will need to be provided plus, perhaps, snacks and refreshments for the return journey.
It is important that all students undertaking Geography GCSE attend this trip. The lessons following the trip are vital for ensuring maximum progress is made in the controlled assessment and any absence should be avoided wherever possible. This trip is fully funded by the Academy.
Yours faithfully
Miss Hopewell Tutor of Geography
