Dear Parent/Carer
RE: History GCSE Controlled Assessment: Government and Protest in the USA 1945 – 1970 The Transformation of Surgery (Mock written exam)
We are writing to inform you that in the first two weeks of Term 3 students will be undertaking the following:
Lessons will return to normal on Friday 24th January when students will start Part B of the Controlled Assessment. Part B is divided into B (i) and B (ii) and we aim to have this finished by March 14th. We suggest that students start to revise for the mock exam paper over the Christmas break and complete the revision work booklet recently provided. We still have some spare Edexcel revision guides available for purchase at a cost of £7.99 should your son/daughter wish to buy one. The revision guide covers the module on ‘The Transformation of Surgery’ in addition to the modules on ‘Medicine Through Time’ and ‘Life in Germany’. We will also be running extra revision sessions after school every Tuesday and Thursday from week 2 in January through to the exam period. Tuesdays will cover Medicine Through Time and Thursdays will cover Life in Germany. Each session will start at 3.45pm and will finish at 4.45pm. We anticipate that we will be able to provide approximately 12 one hour revision sessions for both topics. Regarding the third paper ‘The Transformation of Surgery’, we will have less time for revision (approximately four after school sessions plus two in class sessions). However, we hope that students will revise for the Surgery mock paper over Christmas which will benefit them greatly. We hope the above information will help you and your son/daughter to plan in advance their revision timetables and enables you to see exactly what we are offering our History GCSE students. Please do not hesitate to contact either myself or Mr Chew should you require any additional information. Yours faithfully
