Careers Curriculum

Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG)

The careers curriculum for Corby Business Academy has been designed and to give students the core and employability skills needed for the world of work and to demonstrate the vast number of opportunities available so that they aspire to the best of their ability. This is achieved through a vigorously planned careers programme that focuses on the needs, developmental stages and hurdles of each year group. The guidance students receive is a mix of internal and external activities; demonstrating the strong relationships that school has with careers and education experts.

The key careers targets and curriculum of the programme include:

Learning Outcomes and Goals

  • To instil familiarisation with key aspirational terminology such as employability, skills, Higher Education, entrepreneurialism.
  • To encourage aspiration from the start of secondary education
  • To learn about the core and employability skills needed for the future
  • To assist with the subject choices for GCSEs

Curriculum Activity

  • Barclays Lifeskills (A 4 workshop programme involving Enterprise, Problem Solving, setting and achieving goals and self-confidence)
  • Careers Fair (our careers fair supplies opportunities to engage with employers, FE/HE representatives and participation in career/subject workshops and assemblies
  • STEPs Careers Programme: STEP Up, STEP On and STEP Ahead (activity workbooks to encourage self-reflection, consider change and supply the tools needed for options)
  • Careers Assemblies (content containing guidance, FE/HE/Employer encounters)
  • Kudos

  • To learn about the world of work in practise whilst strengthening initial core and employability skills
  • To Use knowledge, interests and careers experiences to assist career choice
  • To be able to distinguish the differences and benefits between the different post 16 options (College, Sixth Form, Advanced Apprenticeship or Employment)
  • To experience Further/Higher education (FE/HE) and employer encounters to assist with post 16 options
  • To successfully apply and transition to post 16 education

  • STEPs Careers Programme: STEP Forward and STEP Into the Future (activity workbooks to encourage self-reflection, options, experiences to date and guidance on making choices)
  • Careers Assemblies (content containing guidance, FE/HE/Employer encounters)
  • Mock Interviews with Employers

Learning Outcomes and Goals

  • To be able to distinguish the differences and benefits between the different post 18 options
  • To hone core and employability skills, with special attention given to those listed as required in certain career pathways
  • To further knowledge in career areas of interest for confident post 18 decisions
  • To successfully apply and transition to post 18 education (University, Higher or Degree Apprenticeships, Employment)

Careers Plans

Our careers programme for all year groups focuses on the major parts of the students' CEIAG needs. Activities have been designated at the most appropriate points throughout the year for the needs of the students, the activity and the schools schedule; however, the plan is a draft and can change as necessary. New activities/providers that are appropriate to our students learning may be added to our plans during the year.
