Remote Education at Corby Business Academy

Now we are again able to offer our normal in school timetable, our whole school approach to remote learning has ceased as of 12/03/21.

We understand whilst the effects of this pandemic are still impacting those in our community there will be students who need to be remotely educated.  Some of our students may be shielding, need to self-isolate as a close contact or test positive themselves. It is important you and your child knows where to find their learning, how to complete work set and how to share it with their subject teachers should they be unable to attend school for a fixed period of time. This information can be found on Page 10 of our parental guide to remote education below.

Here you will find details of how our students, currently not in school, will be able to access remote learning during this period of temporary school closure. These details are correct for learning delivered and accessed from 11/01/20.

In preparation for a potential period of closure to the majority of our community we have mapped our core curriculum to a remote offer to ensure students continue to receive the learning we had planned for them and that transition between home and school learning is as seamless as possible. This includes adaptations to methods of delivery that best suit remote learning and some adjustment of skill and knowledge focus to prioritise the content that is most achievable in these circumstances. A small number of students may be provided with an alternative to this curriculum where their educational needs require significant changes or adjustments in learning. This will be personalised according to these needs and mirror skills and content wherever possible.

All students are asked to follow their in school timetables. This will ensure they are able to access  at least 5 hours of remote learning per school day, designed to combine the key elements of a comprehensive blended approach. This approach will contain both live and recorded teaching, specialist support with high quality resource and time to apply and consolidate learning . Details of how this will work in practice can be found under the headings below.

Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9)

Teachers will schedule live lessons for all students in these years. These will take place in Microsoft Teams as per the school day, which can be seen below. Teachers will provide instruction and support connected to an assignment that is set and submitted weekly. These assignments will provide further recorded teaching for all students in these year groups in the form of narrative and instructional PowerPoints, teaching videos and resources. Completed work will need to be submitted in teams by 3pm on Friday and this will be regularly reinforced in the live elements. Attendance to lessons will be tracked and monitored throughout the week and teachers will be available to support all students for their timetabled lessons when asked to complete activities independently through class teams and the chat function.

Key Stage 4 and 5 (Years 10, 11, 12 and 13)

Teachers will schedule live lessons for all students in these years. These will take place in Microsoft Teams as per the school day, which can be seen below. Teachers will provide teaching for these lessons that is connected to the examination pathway they are on. Students will be virtually taught for 20-30mins of the lesson time and directed to complete specific tasks related to content being covered. Assignments in Microsoft Teams will also be provided to allow students to the submit the completed work that will be assessed and fed back on by subject teachers. Attendance to lessons will be tracked and monitored throughout the week and teachers will be available to support all students for their timetabled lessons via the functions in Microsoft Teams.

Parents are able to view all assignments set for and submitted  their child through the Show My Homework platform.

Where a teacher is unable to deliver a live lesson, an assignment will be set in their class teams. This will contain narrated or written instruction from a subject specialist.

Remote Pastoral Education

All students will receive a weekly assembly led by their Head of Year or a member of SLT. Furthermore, they are expected to access a weekly tutor session as per the timetable below. Break, lunch and tutor time will be the same for all students in all year groups this term.
