Intent:
The English Curriculum at Corby Business Academy will instil a love of reading in every student. We aim to stimulate an appreciation of our rich and varied literary heritage and a habit of reading widely and often. In placing challenging literature at the core of each year, our students will be exposed to not only the technical aspects of language they need to engage with modern society but access and engage with the world around them; our structure and guidance will ensure that they have something to say in the conversation.
The curriculum will nurture readers and writers who are thoughtful, inspired and informed by respected voices of the past and present, so they can write their future. We recognise the importance of nurturing a culture where students take pride in their writing, can write clearly and accurately and adapt their language and style for a range of contexts. We want to inspire confidence in the art of speaking and listening, as well as use discussion to communicate and further their learning.
Planning and delivery will develop a secure knowledge-base in Literacy, which follows a clear pathway of progression as they advance through the Academy. We believe that a secure basis in literacy skills is crucial to a high-quality education and will give our students the tools they need to participate fully as a member of society.
Students will also be exposed to aspirational academic and career-based opportunities, both in lessons and the wider curriculum. There is a commitment to ensure Literacy skills can be used for life and inspire the future generation.
