Safeguarding & eSafety

Safeguarding in education logoAt Corby Business Academy, safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. We are committed to promoting the safety and wellbeing of our children. We have a clear Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy to make sure every child feels safe and supported.
In order to protect our students, it is our aim to:
  • Create an atmosphere where all the students feel safe, secure, valued and listened to
  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of abuse
  • Respond quickly and effectively to cases of suspected abuse
Corby Business Academy will support all students by:
  • Encouraging self-esteem and self-assertiveness whilst not condoning aggression or bullying
  • Promoting a caring, safe and positive environment within the Academy
All Corby Business Academy staff should be aware that:
  • Their role is to listen and record carefully any observations, which could indicate concern/abuse
  • They should not attempt to investigate, once the initial concern is raised
  • They should involve the Safeguarding Officer/Designated Person immediately
  • If the Safeguarding Officer/Designated Person is not available, the Principal should be contacted
  • A disclosure of abuse or harm could be made at anytime
  • Prior to external agencies being invited into the Academy to work with our students or to carry out work on the premises, all relevant DBS checks and identification has been seen/verified.

If a parent has any concerns of a safeguarding nature, then please contact any of the key personnel on 01536 303120 or 07547 105672.

More information about the safeguarding team can be found within our full policy here.

The student care team provide daily support for all students, staff and parent/Carers. They are based in the student care room on the upper mall just outside the MAIT faculty. There, students will be able to access all forms of support, advice, guidance and wellbeing check if needed. They will also assist in arranging appointments with external agencies, make referrals and communicate with parents and carers.

The team consists of the Designated Safeguarding Lead and three student support officers:

The Student Care Room

The student care room is based on the upper mall just outside the MAIT faculty. Each student support officer is based within this room and is available for students to talk to during break and lunch. If a student requires support during the day/lessons, then appointments will be made to accommodate their needs. A variety of leaflets and posters are available on display for external agencies, which will help them gain extra support if required.

In August 2021, two small private rooms were added to the provision. The rooms host beautiful country woodland wall art for a calming environment, settees, fidget toys, books and colouring equipment and mood lighting to ensure students feel comfortable and relaxed. These rooms also provide a quiet space for students just to have a few minutes or provide an area for any confidential conversations.

Our school is part of Operation Encompass.

Operation Encompass is a partnership between police and schools, through which schools are notified of incidents of domestic abuse which may have had an impact on a child or children attending the school.

Safeguarding teams use this information to ensure that students are closely monitored and to implement support, where appropriate.

More information about Operation Encompass can be found here.
