Governance

"With passion, experience, and a strong connection to our community, we’re here to support and challenge the Academy to be the very best it can be, for every student, every day."
Peter Tiktin, Chair of Governors, Corby Business Academy

Welcome from the Chair

PTIWelcome to the Corby Business Academy governace page.

Working in colaboration with the Trust, Academy’s Principal and staff, the role of the Governing Board is to:

  • Focus the Academy’s strategic direction to support its vision and ethos
  • Hold the Principal to account for the Academy’s educational outcomes
  • Ensure that the Academy’s staff have the resources they need for all for their students
  • Listen to the voices of all our stakeholders

I am lucky to lead a group of dedicated Governors who have diverse range of experiences both within education and the wider world. Many of them live and/or work the area and so have a deep understanding of the community.

My experience spans a teaching career which stretched over 41 years. During this time, I taught Science specialising in Physics in large comprehensive schools in London, Newcastle upon Tyne, Doncaster, Leicestershire, and finally our partner school Brooke Weston Academy. I have fulfilled a wide range of leadership roles whilst in addition remaining passionate about classroom teaching. After retiring I joined Kettering Science Academy Governing Body and actively participated in its development into a ‘good’ school. Additionally, during this period, I worked as an Institute of Physics and STEM Learning coach supporting physics teachers and technicians in schools throughout Northamptonshire. Leicestershire, Warwickshire and Lincolnshire.

I am passionate about using my skills and experience to support the Academy, by encouraging our staff to showcase their dedication, resilience, and commitment to educate our students. Alongside my fellow governors, I look forward to continuing to provide support, challenge, and strategic oversight to help Corby Business Academy to go from strength to strength.

Thank you for visiting our website and for taking an interest in governance at Corby Business Academy.

Warm regards,

Peter Tiktin
Chair of Governors
Corby Business Academy

At Corby Business Academy, the Local Governing Board (LGB) plays a vital role in supporting strong leadership, holding the Principal to account, and ensuring high standards for students and staff. As a committee of the Trust Board, governors meet at least three times a year to challenge and support the school’s performance, safeguard its values, and ensure it is meeting the needs of its pupils and community.

Corby Business Academy is part of the Brooke Weston Trust, a multi-academy trust. The LGB acts as a local committee, gathering insight and information that supports the strategic work of the Trust Board and helps inform decision-making at a trust-wide level.

Working closely with the Principal, Director of Education, the Governance Team and Trust leaders, governors:
• Help shape strategic priorities and ensure accountability
• Monitor educational outcomes and compliance
• Ensure pupil wellbeing, inclusion, and behaviour remain high
• Represent the local community and maintain strong relationships with families and stakeholders

We follow the Trust’s 4S model of governance, which focuses on:
Standards, Safeguarding, SEND, and Stakeholders.
This ensures that governors concentrate on the most impactful areas for school improvement and pupil success.

Local governance is essential in upholding the Trust’s mission to ensure that no child is left behind, and that every student receives the best possible education and a ‘ticket for life’.
