Year 6-7 Transition
Welcome to Our Year 6 to Year 7 Transition Page
A very warm welcome to all our new students, parents and carers.
Moving from primary school to secondary school is an exciting and important step, and we are delighted that you will be joining our school community. We know that this transition can bring a mix of excitement and questions, and our aim is to make the journey into Year 7 as smooth, positive and enjoyable as possible for both students and families.
At the heart of our Academy are our values: Commit, Believe, Achieve. We encourage every student to commit to their learning and to the opportunities that secondary school offers. We want our students to believe in themselves, their abilities and their potential; when students commit and believe, they can truly achieve, both academically and personally.
This page has been created to support you through the transition process. Over the next few months you will find key information, important dates, helpful resources and updates that will guide you and your child as they prepare to start Year 7.
We recommend that you check this page regularly, as new information and updates will be added throughout the year. We will also share important announcements, reminders and highlights through our school social media platforms, so please make sure you are following us there as well.
We are very much looking forward to welcoming our new students into the school community and beginning this exciting journey together.
As Assistant Principal, I have the privilege of overseeing the transition from Year 6 to Year 7, working closely with your Head of Year, Mr Peacock and our Principal Mrs Prior, to ensure that every student is welcomed in our school community with confidence and support.
My role is to help make your journey from primary to secondary as smooth and positive as possible by working with our local primary schools, coordinating transition events and inductions days, and ensuring that every student feels known, supported and ready to begin their secondary school experience.
I have been part of the Academy for almost 10 years, and during that time I have developed a real passion for the school and its community. One of the things I value most is the strong sense of belonging that exists here; students, staff and families work together to create a supportive and ambitious environment where young people are encouraged to succeed. I particularly enjoy seeing students grow in confidence as they move through the school, discovering their strengths, developing new interests and achieving things they may not have thought possible when they first arrived in Year 7.
Hello everyone,
Welcome to year 7 at Corby Business Academy. I will be your Head of Year and I’m looking forward to getting to know each of you as you begin this exciting new chapter of your school journey.
Starting secondary school can feel both exciting and a little bit nerve wracking, but please remember that everyone around you is here to help and support you. Over the next few years you will make new friends, learn new subjects, discover your interests and grow in confidence.
I have been a science teacher at the school for 9 years and as your Head of Year, my role is to support you throughout your time in year 7. This means helping you settle into school life, making sure you feel happy, celebrating your achievements and helping you overcome any challenges you might face. I also work closely with your teachers, form tutors and families to make sure you have the best school experience.
Top tip for success:
One of the best things you can do is to arrive to lessons on time with the correct equipment; being prepared helps you start learning straight away.
I’m really looking forward to meeting you all and seeing what you will achieve during your time here at Corby Business Academy.
Best wishes
Mr Peacock
Head of Year 7
Hello!
I’m the Assistant Unit Manager here at Corby Business Academy, and I’ve been part of the school since it first opened in 2008. One of the best parts of my job is helping students like you move from primary school into secondary school and making sure you feel confident, prepared and excited for the journey ahead.
I work closely with your primary school and your family, and I’ll often attend your transition meetings and annual reviews so I can get to know you before you even arrive. This helps me understand what you enjoy, what support you might need and how we can make your start at CBA the best it can be.
You’ll also be invited to additional transition mornings at the Academy. These are great opportunities to meet other students who will be joining Year 7, chat with some of our current students, get to know some of our staff and start to find your way around the school. By the time September comes, you’ll already have familiar faces and places to look forward to.
Within our Unit Provision, we have a strong and friendly community. We support each other, celebrate one another’s strengths and work together to build confidence, independence and social skills. Our aim is to help you grow, try new things and discover what you’re really good at.
One of the things I love most about my role is seeing how much students grow from Year 7 to Year 11 — watching you gain confidence, make new friends, take on challenges and achieve things you might not have thought possible.
I can’t wait to meet you and be part of your journey here at Corby Business Academy.
