Business
In GCSE Business, the curriculum is carefully sequenced to ensure students develop an understanding of the complexities within Business and how it connects to all of society and every work setting. In Year 10, students start by exploring what a business is and what drives individuals to start a business whilst building on the importance of effective recruitment and training and the impact on a wider company. It then delves in the complexity of product and quality whilst exploring the different methods but understanding the impact on brand reputation. Towards the end of year 10 students will have a built up a plethora of business terminology which they will be able to apply to exam questions whilst also developing an acute mathematical expertise to manage and forecast business finances.
During year 11 all of the year 10 is explored again through deeper exploration of case studies of real-life business to ensure students build a confidence and resilience to connect their business vocabulary to specific contexts. Alongside this, the final unit to be explore din year 11 is Marketing. This is an opportunity to be interactive with lessons and apply many of the marketing concepts to real life scenarios, it is is often the unit which sparks the passion for students to further study business into A Level and beyond due to it’s interactive, relatable and topical nature to general life and our surroundings.
Business terminology is introduced in context, explicitly taught, and reinforced through retrieval practice and application in written and verbal responses ranging from 2 markers through to 12 markers. This structured approach supports long-term memory and ensures that pupils can confidently use subject-specific language to articulate complex ideas.
