Computer Science
"My Job is to persuade you to want to study Computer Science, your job is to prove you are good enough"
At KS3 we want to sell the subject to students and make them want to study it further but we also want them to be fully aware of the demands and realties of the hard work needed to be successful in the subject. The curriculum is designed to give students the opportunity to achieve successful outcomes at KS4 and KS5 through giving them foundational knowledge of the core concepts of the subject.
Each term the curriculum spirals for each year group as they complete different topics, each working towards answering one of the big questions. Each big question links to key topic areas.
Students are encouraged to develop their independence and problem-solving skills so they can be successful in the subject. As computer science is chosen as an option at KS4, the curriculum is designed to help students make an informed decision about studying the subject further and gives the teacher chance to assess if students have the potential to be successful in computer science.
Literacy and numeracy opportunities are integrated into the curriculum throughout and students are regularly given the opportunity to think about the careers linked to the learning they are undertaking. The curriculum also provides students with the opportunity to develop their digital literacy; a vital life skill in the digital age.
The curriculum is differentiated so that it meets the needs of all students studying computer science and all students are given the opportunity to make progress.
