Dance
At Corby Business Academy, our BTEC Level 2 Dance curriculum is designed to inspire creativity, build confidence, and develop real world skills that students can carry forward into further education or a career in the performing arts industry.
Students gain knowledge through practical exploration, watching professional works, creating choreography, and refining technique. Each unit builds on what students already know, helping them to grow as both performers and creative thinkers. Key dance vocabulary is introduced in context, revisited often, and used actively in class discussions and written work, and specific dance terminology based on different styles of dance is also embedded. This helps students remember important terms and use them confidently when talking about their ideas or analysing professional works.
Over time, students develop the ability to think like choreographers, move like performers, and speak like dance professionals. We encourage them to take creative risks, reflect on their work, and develop their own unique artistic voice.
Assessment is used as a tool to celebrate strengths and identify where support is needed. Ultimately, our aim is for every student to leave the course with not only strong dance knowledge and skills, but also with greater self-belief, teamwork, and the ability to express themselves with clarity and purpose.
