At Corby Business Academy, our GCSE Drama curriculum is designed to develop confident, creative, and articulate young people who are equipped with both performance skills and the social awareness needed to thrive in school and beyond. Through practical exploration, devising, scripted performance and evaluation of professional theatre, students learn to communicate ideas clearly, work effectively as part of a team and express themselves with confidence and empathy.

Drama at Corby Business Academy provides a safe space for students to explore different perspectives, cultures, and social issues, helping them to build emotional intelligence and a deeper understanding of the world around them. Students learn to listen actively, offer constructive feedback and take on leadership roles within creative projects.

Each unit builds upon prior knowledge and encourages students to reflect on their strengths and areas for development. Drama specific terminology is introduced in context, embedded through discussion and rehearsal, and applied in written and verbal evaluation, helping students to become fluent and confident in the language of theatre.

Over time, students develop the ability to think like directors, perform with purpose and evaluate like critics. We place strong emphasis on building transferable skills such as resilience, teamwork, creative thinking, and effective communication. These are skills that support success in every aspect of life.

Assessment is used not only to measure progress but also to celebrate creativity, highlight individuality and identify where support is needed. Ultimately, our aim is for every student to leave the course with a strong foundation in drama, increased self-belief and the confidence to express themselves with clarity, conviction and respect for others.
