Geography

Geography at Corby Business Academy is an exciting combination of physical and human geography and the links between them. Within this, we study places that are relevant to each theme, within the UK and including a range of countries and places around the world. Knowledge acquisition and the development of skills is carefully sequenced to ensure students build on their understanding. Knowledge is acquired through reading, categorising information, and through demonstrating a range of geographical skills, including map skills, photograph interpretation, and constructing, interpreting and extracting information from a range of maps, graphs and charts. Students will also acquire knowledge through the skill of interpreting and manipulating numerical and statistical data. Vocabulary is explicitly taught and revisited through different themes and in retrieval practice at the start of lessons, in order to develop long term memory. In Geography, students are assessed through low-stakes tests and end-of-topic assessments that cover a range of skills, knowledge and extended written tasks, which we use to measure progress and address any gaps in knowledge.
