Corby Business Academy’s history curriculum helps to explain the world as it is by exploring the world as it used to be in a broad and ambitious way. Understanding is developed around a spine of British History; however, enquiries seek to explore the interconnectedness of the world by introducing history on a global, continental, and local scale. To this end, we strive to make our curriculum representative of the people of the past, aiming to understand the broadest possible picture and the details that illuminate it.

As a department perhaps our most important curricula aim is to produce ‘citizen historians’, by helping change how our young people understand themselves, the world around them and their own place within it. As such we prioritise providing students through an enquiry-led curriculum with powerful knowledge, that allows them to clamber into the discourse and practises of educated people.

Without doubt, increasing pupils’ historical knowledge, intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and communication skills are all key functions of our curriculum. Increased knowledge of the past helps inform the identity of our young people; this curriculum will both give them confidence to build strong arguments of their own and flexibility to incorporate new perspectives into their thinking. The CBA history curriculum will help pupils to question the decisions of the powerful, as well as the people and communities around them.
