Work Experience

Work related learning is a fundamental part of the ethos at Corby Business Academy. We look to broaden our students understanding of the world of work, further develop their employability skills and allow them to gain new experiences that will inspire them to aim high.

By participating in a work experience placement, students will expand their learning from the classroom into the work environment. At Corby Business Academy, student's will embark on work experience during both Years 10 and 12.

Year 10 and 12 students will both be expected to take part in a one-week (5 days) full-time work experience between 6th - 12th July this year.

At Corby Business Academy, we encourage students to find their own work experience placement.

We launched work experience to Year 12 students on 14th January and Year 10 students on 3rd February. The assemblies covered:

  • the work experience dates
  • the expectations and benefits of participating in work experience
  • how students can work out the type of work experience placement they might like to find
  • where students can find work experience opportunities
  • example companies they could contact
  • how to contact employers via telephone and email

Year 10 and 12 students have also participated in Computer Suites workshops in their Tutor Groups to learn more about how to log their work experience placement once they find one.

Work experience is a very important part of a student’s education and makes the difference for being offered apprenticeships, university places and jobs. Engaging with this would not only provide students with a new experience to place on a CV, but an insight into the career as well.
